Sweep for Wildlife: A Recap from the Wildlife Jewels King Tides Beach Cleanup in Solana Beach!
What an incredible day! Thank you all for joining Wildlife Jewels® at our Sweep & Learn for Wildlife King Tides Beach Cleanup Walk at Fletcher Cove Beach!
On Sunday, November 17th, Wildlife Jewels hosted the King Tides Beach Cleanup Walk at Fletcher Cove Beach as part of our Sweep & Learn for Wildlife Program—and such an inspiring day it was!
Our focus for this event was:
Removing debris that poses a threat to coastal wildlife.
Educating the community about the unique wildlife inhabitants of Fletcher Cove Beach and how we can all play a role in protecting them and preserving our beautiful coastline.
Discovering the coastline’s wonders during King Tides.
A Huge Thank You to Our Volunteers!
We were thrilled to see the Solana Beach community come together with such enthusiasm, dedication, and passion for the environment. Your efforts made a substantial impact, helping to protect the precious wildlife that calls this beach home.
Together, we removed harmful debris such as:
Charcoal and nails
Plastic fragments and bottle caps
Rope, Styrofoam, candy wrappers, plastic utensils, and more..
Each piece removed represents one less hazard for wildlife, preventing potential injuries or ingestion that can be life-threatening.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited to announce more wildlife exploration walks and beach cleanups in the coming months! These events are a fantastic way to connect with nature, learn about local wildlife, and make a positive impact on our environment.

A Day of Discovery and Connection
During our walk, we were treated to the sight of majestic pelicans soaring above the waves, graceful gulls, and playful pigeons foraging on the shore amidst dried seaweed. These encounters are a powerful reminder of why we do this work—to protect and cherish the diverse and stunning wildlife that shares our coast.
We’re excited to share that we have several wildlife exploration walks and clean-ups planned in the upcoming months! If you’re interested in learning more about and participating in our Sweep for Wildlife program activities, sign up through the link provided below!

Wildlife Jewels Sweep and Learn for Wildlife Fletcher Cove Beach! November 17, 2024
On July 9th, we observed several beautiful Western Gulls picking up charcoal from the sand. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our dedicated volunteers during our August and November beach cleanups, we successfully removed at least 140 pounds of charcoal and burnt wood, along with 111 nails, microplastics, candy wrappers, tiny plastic fragments, and styrofoam. These cleanups have significantly reduced the hazards our precious wildlife might otherwise ingest.
