Sweep for Wildlife: A Recap from the Wildlife Jewels Beach Cleanup in Solana Beach!
What an inspiring day! Thank you all for joining Wildlife Jewels® at our Sweep & Learn for Wildlife Beach Cleanup Walk at Fletcher Cove Beach!
On Sunday, August 25th, Wildlife Jewels organized and hosted a community beach cleanup at Fletcher Cove Beach, and we're thrilled to share that our collective efforts were featured in the San Diego Union Tribune! This event was part of our Sweep and Learn for Wildlife™ program. Our focus was on picking up debris while educating the community about the threats debris poses to native wildlife and how we can all contribute to protecting our precious wildlife and preserving our beautiful coastline.
We were delighted to see the Solana Beach community come together with such enthusiasm and commitment, making a substantial impact in protecting our invaluable wildlife.
We want to extend our Thanks to everyone who joined us at Fletcher Cove Beach yesterday!
Together, we prevented wildlife from ingesting harmful items such as charcoal, nails, small plastic fragments, candy wrappers, plastic utensils, and more. Your contribution in removing these items from the beach is invaluable, as every single piece of debris poses a serious threat to our wildlife.
On July 9th, we observed several beautiful Western Gulls picking up charcoal from the sand. Thanks to your invaluable help, we collected at least 90 pounds of charcoal, burnt wood, and 111 nails during our cleanup yesterday, removing a significant hazard that our precious wildlife could otherwise ingest.
During our walk, we also had the pleasure of observing majestic pelicans soaring through the sky—a beautiful reminder of the wildlife we’re striving to protect.
We’re excited to share that we have several wildlife exploration walks and clean-ups planned in the upcoming months! If you’re interested in learning more about and participating in our Sweep for Wildlife program activities, sign up through the link provided below!
