Meet “Pink Tourmaline the Pelican”
Pink Tourmaline is a precious California Brown Pelican who was rescued and rehabilitated by the International Bird Rescue. Sadly she had a severe wing injury caused by fishing hook entanglement. She had been going through physical therapy and treatments for several months. We had the delight of photographing Pink Tourmaline and capturing her natural beauty.

Brown Pelicans are Superheroes!
These precious Dinosaur birds are so graceful in flight and fly in incredible formations when in their group. When they fly just above the waters surface it looks as if they are surfing the waves. They fly low in order to search for fish. Brown Pelicans make such fast and incredible headfirst plunges into the water to catch fish. When they spot a fish, then they dive down and use their bill to scoop up and pick up the fish with water.

Threats to Brown Pelicans
Over 150,000 birds are injured or killed each year caused by fishing hooks and fishing lines. When a bird gets entangled in the fishing line, they go through painful struggles. Birds suffer permanant damage to skin, feather, muscles, nerves, and bones from the line.
