Meet Thandi, a precious Rhino along with her latest calf Zolani. Thandi is a survivor of a brutal poaching attack, she is a mother to 5 calves and two grand-calves.

Thandi is a beautiful female white Rhino who is a survivor of a brutal poaching attack which took place on 2nd of March 2012. She is the first ever Rhino who has survived a poaching attack. Sadly, this attack also claimed the lives of two male rhinos. She and two other male rhinos were attacked using darts. A security patrol found them, one male died, another male fought for 3 weeks til he died. Amazingly Thanks to incredibly talented wildlife veterinarian Dr. William Fowlds and his dedicated team, Thandi improved and recovered after a long process involving pioneering skin graphs on her face. She has a permanent scar on her face and no horn. Thandi has since had five calves, Thembi in 2015, Colin in 2017, Mthetho in 2019, Siya in 2021, and on 1 April 2023, Thandi gave birth to her fifth calf, Zolani. Thandi along with her five calves and two adorable grand-calves reside at Kariega Game Reserve in South Africa.
